A target appears somewhere on the stage and moves. Get your crosshair onto it and click before it gets away โ do that six times and you're done. About 22% of spawns aren't a target at all: they're a blue ally, and shooting one costs you. No download, no sign-up, runs in the browser.
How it works
- Click or tap the stage to arm the test. A target spawns somewhere between 0.6 and 2.2 seconds later โ the delay re-rolls every round, so you can't time it and have to actually wait for it to appear.
- Click before anything has spawned and it's an early trigger: no hit, and the round restarts.
- About 22% of spawns are a blue ally instead of a red target. Shoot it and that's friendly fire โ it costs you time, but it doesn't end the run.
- Six targets down and you get your average time, in milliseconds, plus where that average lands against a reference table.
Targets move, bounce off the edges of the stage, and get a little faster each round โ the sixth target is quicker than the first.
What the millisecond number actually counts
The clock starts the instant the target is inserted into the page and stops the instant your browser reports the click. The same display and input lag that sits inside every reaction test on this site sits inside this one too โ the browser painting the target, your monitor drawing it, light reaching your eye, your hand moving, your mouse reporting the click. We don't subtract any of it, because a web page can't see your monitor or your mouse.
Only the six clean hits count toward your average. Shooting an ally or clicking too early is logged as a mistake, and it does cost you real time โ the round has to restart before you get another target โ but neither kind of mistake is averaged into your score and neither one ends the run. Two players can finish with the same average and have gotten there very differently: one clean and steady, one who fired on an ally twice and paid for it in seconds rather than in accuracy.
The percentile shown next to your score isn't drawn from other players' results โ it's a fixed table we built by hand, the same for everyone, every time. Read it as a rough ruler, not as a live leaderboard position.
What counts as a good score here
The Elite, Pro and Sharp labels under your score are tiers we picked for this game โ under 350 ms is Elite here, under 470 ms is Pro, under 620 ms is Sharp, and so on down to Sleepy past 1,100 ms. We made those cutoffs up to give the result some shape. They aren't thresholds from any study, and you should read them as a game mechanic, not a diagnosis.
We can't hand you a real research benchmark for this specific test, because tracking a moving target while deciding whether to hold your fire isn't the same task as reacting to one fixed cue, and we're not aware of published numbers for it. The 210โ230 ms range you'll see on our plain Reaction Time Test describes clicking the instant a box turns green โ a simpler task than finding a moving target and choosing not to shoot the wrong one. The two numbers aren't directly comparable.
Whether getting faster here carries over to winning more gunfights is a separate question, and the honest answer is that the evidence is thin. No peer-reviewed study trains people on an aim trainer and shows it causally improves real match performance against a control group. What exists is research showing aim trainers reliably measure aim itself โ while explicitly warning against assuming that translates to a real game โ and studies showing practice improves the same narrow task you just practiced. A "27% KDA improvement" statistic attributed to an "Esports Performance Institute" circulates online; that institute and that study don't exist, and we're not repeating the number.
Why your score jumps around
- The spawn delay before each target is random, 0.6 to 2.2 seconds, specifically so you can't anticipate it โ that alone adds noise a single run can't average out.
- Target speed climbs a little with each of the six targets, so your slow first hit and your fast sixth hit aren't really the same test.
- The blue ally can spawn on any of the six rounds, and how you handle it โ hesitate and lose the real target, or fire and lose time to a restart โ has nothing to do with your raw speed.
One run tells you very little on its own. If you want a number you can trust, run it a few times and look at where most attempts land, not your single best one.

What does the FPS Aim Trainer actually measure?
How fast you can find a moving target, get your crosshair onto it and fire โ while holding your fire on a decoy ally about one spawn in five. That combination of tracking, aiming and a quick judgment call is different from a plain reaction test, which only asks you to respond to one fixed cue. Don't treat the two numbers as comparable.
What happens if I shoot an ally?
It's logged as friendly fire. It doesn't end the run and it isn't averaged into your score, but it does cost you time โ the round has to reset before the next real target spawns. Enough friendly fire in a run will slow your overall time even though it never touches the average directly.
Is there a research benchmark for a good score on this test?
No, and we'd rather say that than make one up. The 210โ230 ms range quoted for simple reaction time comes from a lab test where you respond to one static cue โ not from tracking a moving target and deciding whether to shoot it. The Elite/Pro/Sharp labels here are tiers we set ourselves for this game, not scientific thresholds.

From a fixed table we built ourselves, not from other players' live results. Every player who scores the same time gets the same percentile. Treat it as a rough scale for reading your own number, not a real-time ranking.
Why did my time jump around between runs?
Several things are randomized on purpose: the delay before each target (0.6 to 2.2 seconds), its position and speed, and whether a round throws you an ally instead of a target. Speed also increases slightly target by target within a single run. A single run mixes all of that together, so don't read too much into any one result.
