Tesil is a KakaoTalk theme lounge — anyone who wants to make their KakaoTalk look good is welcome. Pick out theme pieces like backgrounds, speech bubbles, icons, splash screens and profiles, tap "Make", and a preview of your own KakaoTalk theme appears. No sign-ups, no payments.

Why we built it

If you have ever gone looking for a new KakaoTalk theme, you probably ran into two walls. Making one yourself means matching image specs one by one and wrestling with a theme builder app. Downloading someone else's means the pretty ones are usually paid, or they are derivative work of unclear origin, which never sits quite right.

So we built something in between. We handle the specs, and you just pick the pieces you like. Every piece is an original, which means we can say plainly who made it.

What happens when you tap "Make"

The pieces you pick are held in your browser's own storage (localStorage). They never reach a Tesil server, and they stay on that device until you clear them. What happens next depends on your phone.

• iPhone (.ktheme) — the theme file is assembled inside your browser. The colours you pick and any photo you upload never leave your device; the whole thing finishes on your phone.
• Android (.apk) — on Android a KakaoTalk theme is not a file but an app you install, so a browser alone cannot build it. Your chosen colours and images are sent to the Tesil build server and compiled into a signed app. What you send is deleted as soon as the theme file is made, and nothing is kept on the server.

Our values

• Originals only — we do not post derivative art that copies someone else's characters or logos. We curate original designs only, so there is nothing to worry about. The standard is written up in our Copyright Policy.
• Creators credited — every piece names the artist who made it, along with their socials. Anyone using a piece should know whose drawing it is.
• Reviewed by a person — every piece that comes in is checked by hand before it goes live. We do not scrape anything in to fill the shelves.
• No watermarks — we do not stamp a Tesil logo on your finished theme, and we do not lock pieces behind a paywall.

The people who draw the pieces

The pieces on Tesil are drawn by individual creators. The artists page shows who made what, and what else they work on.

If you would like to make pieces and put them up, reach out through the contact page. As long as the work is original, we do not care about your style or your résumé.

Hearts

The heart on each piece is the only popularity signal on Tesil. You can tap it without an account, and it tells the creator directly which pieces people love. There is no ranking, and no algorithm pushing the top pieces at you.

Why it is free

Tesil has no sign-up and no payment. We have no plans to lock pieces behind a paywall or bolt on a subscription. Instead we intend to cover running costs with ads on the site. And so that ads never get in the way of choosing pieces or getting your theme, we keep one rule: no ads at the moment you download.

Meaning of Tesil

'Theme + Room (a cozy little room)' — It means a little room of your own filled with KakaoTalk themes.

Common questions

• Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. The pieces you add are saved in your browser, so you can pick up where you left off on the same device.
• Is it really free? Yes. No hidden charges, no trial period.
• Is this an official Kakao service? No. Tesil is an independent curation site with no connection to Kakao.
• Can I post the theme I made somewhere else? Using it yourself is entirely up to you. But the pieces belong to the artists who drew them, so please read the Copyright Policy before redistributing a theme or using one commercially.
• Can I use my own photo? Yes. You can drop your own photo into the background slot. On iPhone that photo never leaves your device.
• Does this work on both iPhone and Android? Both work. The file you get and the way you install it differ, so we cover each separately in the guide.
