What is butterfly clicking?

Butterfly clicking uses two fingers — usually the index and middle finger — alternating on a single mouse button so the clicks register almost as a blur. It reaches roughly 15–25 CPS, higher than jitter clicking, and is gentler on your hand. Try it on the CPS test below.

Butterfly vs jitter clicking

Jitter clicking vibrates one finger (about 10–14 CPS) and tires the arm; butterfly clicking alternates two fingers (about 15–25 CPS) and is easier to sustain. Drag clicking can spike even higher in short bursts. Each technique is just a different way to raise your clicks per second.

Frequently asked questions

How many CPS is butterfly clicking?

Butterfly clicking typically reaches 15–25 CPS, higher than jitter or regular clicking.

Is butterfly clicking better than jitter?

It is usually faster and gentler on your hand, but it can be less consistent. Try both on the CPS test and see which suits you.

How do I butterfly click?

Rest two fingers on the same mouse button and alternate them quickly so the clicks overlap. Practice on a 10-second CPS test.
